Moving to OrbixPanel — what migrates and what to set up fresh
Moving a site to OrbixPanel is mostly mechanical once you know which parts come across automatically and which you recreate. This page is the map; the other guides in this section are the steps.
What migrates automatically
OrbixPanel’s cPanel import takes a cPanel backup archive and restores:
- Website files — installed into the new site’s web root (
/var/www/<domain>). - MySQL databases — restored from the backup.
What you set up fresh
These aren’t carried over by the import — they’re quick to redo and often better done cleanly:
- Email — recreate mailboxes & forwarders and set up DKIM/SPF/DMARC.
- DNS — point records at the new server (A, MX).
- SSL — request fresh free certificates once DNS points over.
- Cron jobs and any app-specific config.
The safe cutover order
Do it in this order to avoid downtime and lost mail:
- Migrate files + databases to OrbixPanel while the old host still serves live traffic.
- Recreate email, cron, and app config; test the site using a temporary URL or your hosts file.
- Lower your DNS TTL a day ahead so the switch is fast.
- Cut over DNS to the new server; request SSL.
- Watch both for a few days before cancelling the old host.
Pick your path
- From cPanel — the automated import.
- Move a WordPress site — files + DB + URL.
- Change servers — OrbixPanel box → new box.
- Post-migration checklist.
