Offer domain registration to your hosting customers
Most hosting customers would happily buy their domain from you too — it’s one less account for them and extra recurring revenue for you. OrbixPanel hosts the sites and can run the DNS; the registration itself comes from a domain registrar.
How it fits together
- Registration — selling/renewing the domain name — is a registrar function. You offer it via a registrar reseller program (many registrars have one with an API and wholesale pricing).
- DNS + hosting — once a customer has a domain, point it at your OrbixPanel server and you manage the rest.
So “offering domains” means pairing a registrar reseller account with your hosting.
Getting started
- Pick a registrar with a reseller program — compare wholesale pricing, the TLDs offered, and whether they have an API you can integrate.
- Decide how hands-on to be:
- Simplest: help customers register at a recommended registrar, then point their domain at your server for them.
- Fuller: use the registrar reseller API/portal to sell domains under your brand.
- Set your markup — domains are usually a thin-margin, high-attach add-on; the value is convenience and stickiness, not big per-domain profit.
Why it reduces churn
A customer whose domain and hosting both live with you has more reason to stay — moving means migrating both. It deepens the relationship and gives you a natural annual renewal touchpoint. See reduce churn.
Once they have a domain
- Point it at your server.
- Set up email and MX records.
- Request SSL.
