How app deployment works on OrbixPanel
OrbixPanel deploys apps straight from a Git repository (or a zip/URL). It looks at your code, picks a runtime, builds it, and serves it. Understand the handful of rules below and every framework guide in this section becomes obvious.
Three kinds of app
Exactly one applies to your project:
| Kind | Examples | How it’s served |
|---|---|---|
| Static | Vite, React (CRA), Angular, Astro, Hugo, plain HTML | nginx serves the built files directly |
| Server app | Next.js, Express, Nest, Django, Flask, FastAPI, Go | runs as a managed service behind an nginx reverse proxy |
| PHP | Laravel, WordPress, plain PHP | nginx + php-fpm |
Runtime is auto-detected (Node via package.json, Python via
requirements.txt, Go via go.mod, PHP via composer.json/index.php). A Node
project that has a build script but no start script is treated as a
static site — exactly what you want for Vite/React.
The one rule for server apps: listen on $PORT
This is the thing everyone needs to know. OrbixPanel starts your app with a
PORT environment variable and expects it to listen on that port, on
0.0.0.0. The reverse proxy forwards your domain’s traffic there, and a
health check confirms the app is listening — if it isn’t, the deploy fails.
- Node:
app.listen(process.env.PORT) - Python/Go: bind
0.0.0.0:$PORT(the framework guides show the exact command OrbixPanel runs)
Hard-coding port 3000 or 8080 is the #1 reason a deploy “builds fine but won’t go live.” Read the port from the environment.
What gets built
| Runtime | Install & build | Start |
|---|---|---|
| Node | npm ci (or install), then npm run build if present | npm start, or your entry file |
| Python | creates a .venv, installs requirements.txt | gunicorn/uvicorn (auto-added if missing) |
| Go | go build -o app . | ./app |
| Static | npm run build if present | nginx serves the output folder |
| PHP | composer install --no-dev | php-fpm serves public/ (or the repo root) |
After it’s live
- Add your domain and request free SSL.
- Set secrets as environment variables, never in Git.
- Redeploy to ship updates.
