Install Joomla, phpBB, and other database-backed CMSes

Many popular apps — Joomla, phpBB, and similar CMSes/forums — need a database and run their own web-based installer for the final setup. OrbixPanel handles the file placement; you finish in the app’s wizard.

The flow

  1. Create a database. These apps need one — set up a MySQL database + user and note the credentials.

  2. Install the files. Use the App Catalog if the app is listed, or install from the official release URL. OrbixPanel extracts the files into your site’s web root.

  3. Run the app’s web installer. Open your site in a browser — the app’s setup wizard loads. Enter the database details from step 1:

    FieldValue
    Database host127.0.0.1
Database name / user / passwordwhat you created in step 1
  4. Finish setup — create the admin account and configure the site.

Why a web wizard?

CMSes like Joomla and phpBB generate their own config and admin account during install, and often let you pick options (sample data, language, etc.). Running their native installer is the supported, reliable way — OrbixPanel just gets the files safely in place first.

After install

  • Secure the admin — strong password, keep the app updated.
  • Delete the install directory if the app asks you to (common for Joomla).
  • Request SSL and point your domain.
  • PHP version — set a modern one for speed (PHP & OPcache).

Keeping them updated

Database-backed CMSes need regular updates — they’re common attack targets. See update & maintain apps and scan for malware.
